What I enjoyed: from start to finish, this is packed with action and character development. I appreciated getting to know Alucard more and revealing the mystery of what really happened the night he left Rhy. Osaron grows into an even bigger baddie, and it takes many tries to finally resolve his villainy. It felt epic and justified that so many had to die to accomplish the end. Characters are killed off at the correct times, and while it’s sad to see many of them go, it feels like the right move to make. It’s also lovely to watch Lila soften and begin to trust Kell. Their romance never overshadows the plot, and it doesn’t have any unnecessary or nonsensical melodrama. They get together and grow stronger because of it. Very refreshing for the YA/romantasy genre. The ending is perfect and bittersweet. I especially appreciated the conclusion to Holland’s character arc.
