Haunting of Payne’s Hollow by Kelley Armstrong

Used book in excellent condition. 

What I enjoyed: The story is pretty fast paced and the emotional suspense keeps it moving. I loved to hate her grandfather. I kept thinking maybe he will have redemption in a reveal, but no - he was really just that bad. The monsters are gruesome and truly creepy. And the slow revelation of Austin and Sam’s background was so frustratingly emotional. Everything about it spoke to larger conversations about “boys being boys” and to what extent girls should submit to a boy’s “harmless crush.” Sam’s awakening at the end felt empowering and logical. That there was a believable buildup to get there. And the ending was just all the most delightful ways for her to get her revenge.
