What I enjoyed: Smut with a purpose! The emotional buildup to the eventual coupling really compels the plot forward. Lark’s past trauma is so very believably complicated. Callum’s equally traumatic past makes his disposition and reactions feel genuine. The characters around the periphery feel fully realized with stories I want to know. And yes, there are a LOT of moments of descriptions of the embalming process. It’s not overly grotesque, but it is present. It felt to me like a balanced moment of authenticity without being too graphic for a romance novel. Sometimes though, tropes provide the perfect structure of comfort: grumpy/sunshine, marriage of convenience etc etc
