What I enjoyed: Woah. I feel seen. College to me felt much like it did for Minnie with an intense loneliness and searching for a solid friend group; especially in my freshman year. I really related to her disillusionment in her search for belonging and coming up alone. All the more complicated for her as she navigated the feeling of othering because of her race and trauma (no spoilers, but she experiences something horrible that causes a deep sense of depression and isolation). The slow unraveling of Halo’s backstory hits like a gut punch when the end is revealed. I’m glad this didn’t end up as a star crossed lovers trope. In fact, the ending is what I probably enjoyed the best.
