What I enjoyed: The back and forth between reality and the dissociative escape into a fantasy YA novel was such an interesting and unexpected premise. It helped to feel just like the kids needing a break from the tense and stressful situation. The town leadership’s continued failure to do anything helpful added to the growing sense that the characters were completely on their own. Amplifying the tension and increasing the stakes. I loved how the kids remained kids throughout the ordeal.
